Challenges Narayana Murthy faced while doing business in a no-smartphone era
Murthy recalls of a time when phone connections were scarce and it was tough for a fledgling enterprise.

Narayana Murthy illustrated the point with a delicious anecdote at an event in Mumbai earlier this year. The Infosys founder was addressing an audience of budding entrepreneurs and spoke of the challenges he and his co-founders faced when launching their company.
Getting a phone line was difficult. Murthy recalled former minister of communications, C M Stephen, berating people for asking for telephones, saying, “You’ll should understand. This is a poor country. Even the PM’s phone doesn’t work. You should be happy at least there is an instrument on the table.”
