ChaiPoint's Bengaluru plant is 100 per cent plastic-free, says CEO Amuleek Singh Bijral

This CEO has turned to bagasse-based plates in order to eliminate the use of plastic.

Nothing beats a steaming cup of tea as the perfect pick-me-up. But this tea entrepreneur is losing sleep. Not over business, but the environment. Amuleek Singh Bijral, the CEO of ChaiPoint, feels the time has come to label pollution and wastage as a “major concern”.

Bijral says that all major organisations need to do their bit to address the problem of pollution and stop the world from turning into a big ball of plastic. “Organisations should conduct an in-depth analysis of their value chain to figure out which components can be switched to an alternative solution to bring down their carbon footprint.”

And he’s not just all talk.

The CEO has tested various alternatives and currently is weeding out plastic from their branches, with Bengaluru being 100 per cent plastic-free. So, what’s he using instead?

“We are using bagasse-based plates (sugarcane waste). We have dug deep and tested various alternative solutions for materials in order to eliminate plastics.” .
