CES 2026: MSI refreshes its laptop portfolio with lighter prestige models and more powerful gaming machines

Prestige series: a design-led reset for professionals
The biggest change is reserved for the Prestige lineup. MSI has given its business laptops a complete visual overhaul, moving to softer curves, thinner profiles, and full-aluminium builds. The goal is obvious: make performance laptops look and feel more refined, without adding bulk. The new Prestige 14 and Prestige 16 are noticeably lighter than before—1.32 kg and 1.59 kg respectively—while still running on Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. Battery capacity tops out at 81Wh, which MSI claims can deliver over a day’s worth of video playback. Intel Arc graphics (B390 on higher-end configurations) also make these machines more capable for light content creation and casual gaming than previous generations.
MSI is also leaning into usability tweaks rather than pure marketing features. The new Action Touchpad is physically larger and supports configurable gesture zones, while security remains enterprise-grade with TPM 2.0, biometric login, and presence-based locking.
For users who prefer flexibility, the Prestige 14 Flip and 16 Flip add a 2-in-1 form factor with OLED touch displays. They ship with MSI’s Nano Pen, which charges in seconds when docked into the chassis and includes a dedicated Copilot voice shortcut—clearly aimed at note-takers and mobile professionals.
At the extreme end of portability, the Prestige 13 AI+ continues MSI’s obsession with weight reduction. At 899 grams, it remains one of the lightest 13-inch laptops around, now paired with newer Intel silicon without compromising on security or build quality.
Modern S series: mainstream, but less plasticky
Below the Prestige line, MSI refreshed the Modern 14S and 16S to feel less like entry-level machines. More metal in the chassis, slimmer profiles, and a wider selection of ports—including RJ-45 and microSD—make them practical everyday laptops rather than stripped-down budget options. Dual memory slots also mean these aren’t locked into their factory configurations.Gaming laptops: smaller bodies, bigger power numbers
On the gaming side, MSI has clearly focused on thermals and power delivery. The new Raider 16 Max HX is the headline act, pushing a claimed 300W total system power—split between Intel Core Ultra 200HX processors and up to RTX 5090 graphics. To manage that, MSI has reworked its cooling with a three-fan setup, multiple exhausts, and phase-change thermal material. The chassis is also easier to open, making RAM and SSD upgrades less painful. The Stealth 16 AI+, which picked up a CES Innovation Award, continues MSI’s thin-and-light gaming philosophy. At under 2 kg, it still manages higher GPU power than before thanks to improved airflow, while retaining a clean, understated design that doesn’t scream “gaming laptop” in a meeting room.
The Crosshair series rounds out the lineup with a more aggressive aesthetic, up to 200W system power, OLED display options, and a revised port layout that shifts bulkier connections to the rear for cleaner desk setups.
Handhelds and market focus
MSI also showed off a Glacier Blue edition of the Claw 8 AI+ handheld. Internally, it’s unchanged, running Intel Core Ultra 200V processors with Arc Xe2 graphics, but the new colourway is clearly meant to keep the device visually fresh in an increasingly crowded handheld market.Speaking about the broader strategy, MSI executives highlighted how user expectations are shifting toward devices that can cover multiple roles—work, play, and creation—without compromise. India, in particular, remains a focus market as global design and performance trends increasingly influence local buying decisions.
Availability
The new Prestige laptops powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors open for pre-orders from January 6, 2026, with sales beginning January 27. Other models showcased at CES, including gaming laptops and handhelds, will roll out across regions over the coming months.Overall, MSI’s CES 2026 lineup feels less about flashy claims and more about refinement—lighter designs, smarter cooling, and features that address how people actually use their laptops day to day.
