Celina Jaitly reveals twin sons read the divorce notice
During a candid conversation with India Today, Celina recalled receiving divorce papers on what was supposed to be her 15th wedding anniversary. She said the documents were written in German, a language she is not fluent in, and that Peter Haag did not help her understand what they contained.According to the actor, she initially believed the envelope contained official paperwork related to her residency. After returning home from the post office, she asked her twin sons, who were doing their homework, to read the document because they were more comfortable with the language.
Celina said the children ended up reading what she described as a "terrible" divorce notice. Speaking about the moment, Celina said, "I was being divorced for not being enough for my husband's needs and for the irretrievable breakdown of our marriage. I thought it was a joke."
'Find a job if you want access to the children'
Celina also spoke about what happened after the divorce proceedings began. She said a judge had encouraged both sides to work towards an amicable separation. Following that advice, she said she sent a settlement proposal to her husband's lawyers.According to Celina, she did not seek anything beyond the return of her own investments and assets. She also wanted the couple to continue sharing joint custody of their children.
However, she alleged that the situation became more difficult when she was informed that she would not be able to return to Mumbai after the divorce. She said that when she approached Peter to discuss the matter, she was told that she would need to find a job in Austria if she wanted access to their children.
Recalling the conversation, Celina claimed, "I said I don't want anything. I just want my assets back and the money that I invested, and I want us to continue with joint custody. I went to my husband to speak to him after his lawyer said I wouldn't be able to return to Mumbai after the divorce, and I was told, 'Find a job if you want access to the children.' I said, 'What work am I going to do?' And I was told, 'I will get you a job as a cleaner in a supermarket. We don't look down upon jobs here like you do in India.'"
Earlier, Peter Haag has publicly denied allegations of abuse and wrongdoing.
The ongoing legal battle
For the unversed, Celina and Peter Haag got married in 2010. The couple have three children after suffering a personal tragedy in 2017, when one of their twin sons died due to a heart condition. In November 2025, Celina filed a case against Peter under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. She alleged that she had experienced continuous domestic violence during the marriage. She also sought maintenance and compensation and claimed she had been denied access to her children despite the couple having a joint custody arrangement.
According to reports, the Mumbai Police registered an FIR against Peter following her complaint. The legal proceedings remain ongoing. In May this year, Mumbai-based law firm Semwal & Co. confirmed that Peter Haag and his father, DI Wolfgang J. Haag, had separately issued legal notices to Celina.
The notices denied her allegations of abuse, harassment and intimidation. They also objected to her public statements through interviews and social media during the ongoing divorce and child custody proceedings. The notices sought the removal of the alleged defamatory content, demanded a public apology and warned of possible civil and criminal action if the demands were not met.
While the legal dispute continues, Celina is preparing to return to cinema with Ram Kamal Mukherjee's biographical drama, marking her first feature film in years.
