Vinyl Pipes MD Saumya Jain goes for annual full body check-ups to track his health.
Investment in mental and physical health is important for maintaining balance and equilibrium in life. Vinyl Pipes Managing Director Saumya Jain's special dose of mental health is happiness and smiles that exude from his daughters, nothing more refreshing for him.
"Staying healthy been a focus for me, but being a food lover was not doing very well on my own so, now I have taken the assistance of a dietician and a fitness instructor to keep me sharp. On the diet end currently, on a six-week regime, peppered with gluten-free food, vegan diet, loads of fruits, vegetables and supplements across the duration. An annual whole-body check-up to reaffirm that the efforts are in the right direction," he says.
Regimen raga Stretches twice a day and a four km walk is the current regime stamina training to kick off in June if the pandemic permits is the way to go for Jain.
"Being a Jain, I take only a vegetarian diet. My morning kicks off with a glass of water, eight almonds and four dates, followed by oil pulling – a 50:50 ratios of coconut and sesame oil for seven minutes. Morning ritual closes with rosemary and hibiscus tea which holds promises to improve overall health," he shares.
Mental health A healthy mind has never been as important, as it is today given the atmosphere the pandemic has created.
A 20 minutes of transcendental meditation every day is a must, says Saumya Jain.

"When too stressed, I reach out to a friend who is also a psychologist a good heart to heart with her does wonders for me. Other than that, I read. Being an avid reader, I devour books. Some of the books I recently finished are: 'Courage to be Disliked' (my chosen book for life), 'Power of Boredom' (a golden book, simple 76 pages of hacks) 'Thinking Fast and Slow', 'Deep work'. Other than that, I like to meet people and socialise. Sharing, exchanging thoughts and ideas make for a healthy mind. Also, I believe in clearing the air when dissonance happens, carrying baggage makes for an unhealthy mindset," he says.
Traditionally, as long as Jain's memory serves, they have badam paste with hot milk, highly nutritious and helps in building health for both body and mind. "Another thing that we have in our family regularly is the khamira, which acts as a tonic for the brain, liver, and stomach, and heart," he adds.
Soul safety For the health of his soul, Jain turns to his belief and its teachings. "My mom is pursuing her PhD in Jainism, sitting with her makes me cleanse my soul. In Jainism we have a motto, Parasparopagraho Jivanam - Souls render service to one another. It guides me to stay humble and be of service to others. I aim to be a SHRAVAK, one who follows Parasparopagraho Jivanam. It also helps me stay connected to my roots and family legacy. Our day starts with chants, Namokar mantra and 12 bhavna. A 20 minutes of transcendental meditation every day is a must. At the close of the day we have the Evening prayer with namokar mantra with my daughters," he ends.

“I have fine-tuned my baking skills. Although my wife Benaisha and I aren’t vegan, the rest of the house is. So, during the lockdown, vegan baking took centrestage. Benaisha makes the best chocolate mousse cake. It’s made with dates, almond flour and coconut milk — it’s a huge hit. I find baking therapeutic. It’s a precise activity where the outcome is as perfect as the work that goes into it. If you follow the instructions, the end result is good. I love that.”
