The book explores the story of Carrie White, a 16-year-old teen who often faces bullying for being overweight and religious extremism at her school. At home too, she faces emotional abuse from her fanatic mother, Margaret. Things come to a boiling point at a prom night, and Carrie, who has telekinetic powers, has a deadly outburst.
Carrie was released in 1974 and became a bestseller in no time. It sold more than four million copies. Carrie, which was King's first novel, started his career and brought him a lot of success in the mainstream. It is also said to have brought back popular interest in horror stories and inspired many modern horror authors.
The latest adaptation of the book has features Summer H. Howell in the lead role of Carrie White, a withdrawn teenager whose life takes a dramatic turn after the death of her father compels her to attend a public high school. There, she faces persistent bullying while simultaneously discovering that she possesses telekinetic powers. Samantha Sloyan plays Margaret White, Carrie’s intensely religious mother. The ensemble cast also features Siena Agudong, Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti and Thalia Dudek.
The film will be available for streaming from October 7, only on Prime Video.
