For viewers waiting to watch the new Carrie, the series will premiere on October 7, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video. All eight episodes will be released on the same day, Wednesday, October 7, rather than following a weekly release schedule.The series will be available in more than 240 countries and territories, which means viewers in India will also be able to watch it on Prime Video from the release date.
Prime Video described the show as a new series from Mike Flanagan and released its trailer ahead of the premiere. The streaming service wrote, "If you think you know her story, you’re dead wrong. All episodes of Carrie, a new series from Mike Flanagan, premiere October 7 on Prime Video."
What is the new Carrie series about?
The story follows Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, a quiet and isolated young woman who has been homeschooled for most of her life by her deeply religious mother, Margaret White, played by Samantha Sloyan.Carrie's life changes after the sudden death of her father. She eventually enters a regular high school, where she finds herself dealing with classmates, social pressure and relentless bullying. The trailer gives a glimpse of how quickly things become worse for her as the students turn Carrie into a target.
At the same time, Carrie starts discovering mysterious telekinetic abilities. Her powers become stronger as the pressure around her continues to build, eventually leading towards the infamous prom night incident.
The new series is expected to spend more time on the events and choices that lead Carrie towards that night. It also brings the story into a more modern setting, with bullying and the pressures of the social media age forming part of the conflict.
Carrie cast: Who plays Carrie White?
Summer H. Howell plays the central character of Carrie White after an extensive casting search involving more than 1,000 actors. Samantha Sloyan plays her mother Margaret, while Siena Agudong appears as Sue Snell and Alison Thornton plays Chris Hargensen.The cast also includes Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.
Several actors who have worked with Flanagan before are also part of the series, including Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Michael Trucco, Tim Bagley and Heather Graham.
Mike Flanagan's Stephen King adaptation
The series is based on King's 1974 debut novel Carrie. The book spent 14 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into more than 35 languages.Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher, serves as showrunner, writer and director on the new adaptation. He has directed four of the eight episodes, while Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Hiromi Kamata direct the remaining episodes. Stephen King is also an executive producer.
The new show arrives during the 50th anniversary year of De Palma's 1976 Carrie, which starred Sissy Spacek and received two Academy Award nominations.
