Cannes loves Hollywood fame Johnny Depp! The global sensation, who stayed away from the glaring eyes of the media since his 2022 highly-publicised defamation case with ex-wife Amber Heard, was all smiles when we arrived at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival.

Depp walked the red carpet in tow with his team members from the film 'Jeanne Du Barry', which premiered on Day 1 of Cannes. While the actor was welcomed to cheers and a huge sea of fans waiting patiently to catch a glimpse of their 'Jack Sparrow', something brilliant was waiting ahead for the star.

Amidst tension and controversy, fans waiting in the French Riviera as Cannes rolls out its red carpet, were seen hoisting signs that read "Congrats, Johnny" and "We are sorry" with a heart.

As Depp's power-packed performance as the King Louis XV played on screen, the crowd in the South of France erupted in prolonged applause and a standing ovation.

As the screening of the film came to an end, the 59-year-old actor and others received a seven-minute-long standing ovation from the audience, as per the video shared by Variety.
The overwhelmed actor held back his tears while waving back to the crowd from his balcony, visibly emotional and stunned. The moment is too deep and personal for Depp, who was at the centre of a controversial lawsuit that played out in the public for weeks.

The first film of Depp with him playing a major role comes a year after court delivered its verdict in the controversial defamation trial over Amber Heard's 2018 op-ed she wrote on being a domestic abuse survivor.

Depp's 'Jeanne du Barry' also stars Maiwenn as Jeanne Vanbernier, an 18th century working class woman in France who becomes King Louis XV's lover after rising up the social ranks.
