Cannes Film festival will remain world's best, says envoy

PANAJI: The Cannes Film Festival is the world's best movie fest and even the Berlin Film Festival event cannot compete with it, the French Ambassador said here on Saturday.

"Cannes is unique because it is the first festival and has established itself as the world's reference. There are film festivals everywhere including in Germany and the USA but Cannes remains the best," French Ambassador to India Francois Richier told reporters in Goa.

"Nobody is trying to challenge Cannes. You have to find your own place. Germans have a very interesting festival in Berlin but nobody can really compare it to Cannes. For filmmakers, it is important to be present at the Cannes Festival," he said.

The envoy said that cinematic exchange between France and India is on the rise.

"Cinematic co-operation between the two nations is on the rise," he said.
