Canadian or not? Akshay Kumar responds, tweets about paying taxes in India

The actor said that much was being made of his citizenship issue.

Never denied my Canadian passport, disappointed by needless controversy: Akshay Kumar
Actor Akshay Kumar on Friday chose to respond to the buzz about his citizenship that was generated following his interview of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Since the interview was telecast on April 25, the 51-year-old actor has been trolled for his citizenship.

In a strongly-worded tweet, the actor quashed the speculation about his citizenship, and said that he failed to fathom the "unwarranted interest & negativity about my citizenship."

Reiterating that he had been a conscientious citizen who works in India and paid all his taxes, 'Khiladi' Kumar as he is popularly known, mentioned that he had "never hidden or denied about holding a Canadian passport." He went on to add that he has "never needed to prove his love for India to anyone."

In the statement shared on Twitter, he wrote, "I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years.

"While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others. I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger," he tweeted.
