Bengaluru, India's thriving IT hub, faces a well-documented challenge: its traffic congestion. With rapid urbanization and inadequate infrastructure, the city’s streets are often clogged, particularly during peak hours. Now, a Bengaluru-based CEO is proposing a solution inspired by a scheme in Beijing to address this persistent issue.

A Beijing-Inspired Solution

Paras Chopra, a serial entrepreneur, recently shared a screenshot on the social media platform X, highlighting an innovative service available in Beijing. In the Chinese capital, commuters stuck in traffic can pay approximately $60 (Rs 5,022) for a ‘rescue’ service. This service involves one person arriving on a motorbike to pick up the stranded commuter, while another individual drives their car to the intended destination.

Chopra’s post included the suggestion: “Bangalore founders, drop that SaaS idea and build this instead,” urging local entrepreneurs to consider adapting this model for Bengaluru.

Social Media Reactions

The idea quickly gained traction on social media, sparking a mix of amusement and skepticism among users. While some saw the potential for this concept to alleviate traffic woes, others raised doubts about its feasibility in Bengaluru’s chaotic traffic conditions.

Debonkar, the founder of GoToGrowth, commented, “Best startup idea,” praising the concept. On the other hand, Sankalp offered a more cautious view, noting the challenges of establishing a trust-based system and suggesting that insurance companies might need to create a new coverage section for such services.

Concerns about the cost were also voiced. One user remarked, “Indians are way too price sensitive lol. Will sit in traffic for three hours rather than spend Rs 1,000 to get rescued.” Another humorously noted, “Except that you will be stuck on the motorbike instead.”

Interestingly, some users reported having used similar services informally. One said, “I’ve done this so many times, here in Bangalore. Very fun, just book an Uber.”

Bengaluru’s traffic problems are not new. Earlier this year, the city's traffic police introduced the AI-powered Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management (ASTRaM) tool to better monitor and manage traffic flow. However, innovative ideas like Chopra’s could offer additional ways to tackle the city's congestion.
