Two years on, 'Summer of Love' ends for Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes; couple vow to stay friends after split
The couple recently began counselling in an effort to improve their relationship.

Shawn and Camila, who started off as best friends before they started dating, said that though they are separating, their love for one another as humans is "stronger than ever".
"Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for another as humans is stronger than ever," the statement began.
"We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward. Camila and Shawn," they added.
The announcement comes days after Shawn and Camila appeared more in love than ever on Halloween as the two shared a few glimpsed with their fans on the social networking site. For the occasion, the pair dressed up in matching Folklorico outfits in honour of the Day of the Dead.
The duo made their first major public appearance as a couple at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, 2019, where they performed their duet 'Senorita'.
The couple quarantined together in Miami during the Covid-19 outbreak which Shawn said back in August was a time that brought them closer together. The singer's hit track 'Summer of Love' was inspired by the couple's time together during the first several months of lockdown.
In the past, Camila had spoken on how Shawn helped her through anxiety during the pandemic.
The break-up news comes as a shock to many as the couple had recently began counselling in an effort to improve their relationship. Camila, in October, told Glamour that it's because of therapy that they are able to "trust each other so much."
In late 2020, the couple also adopted a dog, named Tarzan, who Shawn took home to Canada when they returned to his hometown in Ontario for the holidays with Camila that year.
Camila recently starred in Amazon Prime's musical, 'Cinderella'.
