Cadillac will unveil the 'V' model of its top-of-the-line third generation CTS sedan in Detroit this month.

With the Corvette Z06's massive 6.2-litre V8 shoehorned under the hood, the CTS-V will be the most powerful vehicle Cadillac has ever created in its 112-year history. The CTS-V was the first vehicle GM has ever released that could go head-to-head with the best performance sport sedans from Germany.

As with the previous gen CTS-V, GM engineers removed the base engine and stuffed in the Corvette's V8 — but not just any V8, rather the supercharged monster from the Z06.

That means the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will boast a Ferrari-challenging 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. On launch control, the CTS-V will rocket from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, en route to a 200 mph speed ceiling. All in a fourdoor sedan luxed-out with a Cadillac interior. GM's superlative Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) active suspension has been enhanced, posting a 40 per cent improvement in responsiveness.

Of course Cadillac will also lace out the V with all sorts of exposed carbon fibre bits to not only shed weight, but to give their supercar the necessary pedigree to battle its German nemeses.
