The state government of Tamil Nadu announced the State Film Awards on September 2 this year for the years 2009 through 2014. Chennai served as the location for the ceremony on September 4.
Mayandi Kudumbathinar, Pasanga, and Acchamundu Acchamundu received the 2009 Best Movie award, while Karan was named Best Actor.
Lists of the top three movies, artists, musicians, and lyricists from 2009 till the year 2014 were also made public by the authorities.
Vasantha Balan got the award for Best Director, but Paadmapriya took home the Best Actress honours. Additionally honoured as the best music director for the year 2009 was Sundar C Babu. In 2010, the best film award went to Mynaa, Kalavani, and Puthran, and the best actor award went to Vikram. Amala Paul received the Best Actress accolade, and Prabhu Solomon received the Best Director honour. Yuvan Shankar Raja got the Best Music Director prize that year.
2011's Best Movie award went to Deiva Thirumagal, Vaagai Sooda Vaa, and Uchithanai Muharnthaal. The awards for Best Actor and Best Actress for that year went to Ineya and Vimal, respectively. The award for Best Music Director was given to Harris Jayaraj, and Best Director went to AL Vijay.
Saattai, Dhoni, and Vazhaku Enn 18/9 were the winners of the Best Film award in 2012. Aside from Lakshmi Menon winning Best Actress that year, Kumki won Best Beast Actor, Jiiva won Best Actor, Balaji Sakthivel won Best Director, and D Imman won Best Music Director that year.
The top three movies of 2013 were Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, Thangameengal, and Ramanujan. Nayanthara, the Lady Superstar, received the Best Actress award, Arya, the Best Actor award, Ram the Best Director award, and Ramesh Vinayagam the Best Music Director award in the year 2013.
In 2014, Siddharth received Best Actor, while Goli Soda, Kuttram Kadithal, and Nimirndhu Nil won Best Movie. The Best Actress award was given to Aishwarya Rajesh, and the Best Director award went to Raghavan. The Special Actor award was won by Vijay Sethupathi and the award for Special Actress Awards went to Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
