Jai Bhim, a Tamil movie directed by TJ Gnanavel in 2021, is about a tribal guy who is wrongfully convicted of committing robberies and subsequently escapes from police captivity. This crime legal drama received an 8.9 rating on IMDb and was well-liked by viewers.
V Kulanjiyappan, reportedly on whom a character was depicted in the movie, has filed this FIR under the copyright act.
Kulanjiyappan claims to own the film's copyrights and that Jai Bhim is his struggle story. Furthermore, he adds that the royalties were not paid by the makers. The Chennai Police Department registered the FIR on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

V Kulanjiyappan added that in January 2019, TJ Gnanavel met him at his residence and promised a sum of INR 50 lakhs as royalty as well as shares in Jai Bhim's profits. The complainant said that TJ Gnanavel has not fulfilled the promise.

The director also tweeted a note of apology saying that he never wanted to hurt the sentiments of any community or group in particular through his direction of the film Jai Bhim.
