Suniel Shetty has shelled out several hit films during his time in Bollywood as a star actor. The actor, who turned 61 this month, was speaking during an event where he talked about the tough phase through which the film industry is passing right now. Suniel Shetty reportedly said that Bollywood has produced some excellent work, but lately, people do not seem to be happy with the type of content or subjects on which movies are being made these days, which could be one of the reasons why Bollywood is going through this difficult time.

Suniel Shetty added that he was hopeful that movie makers would take note of this fact, as earlier it was seen as a one-off thing, but increasingly people are staying away from the theatres. He couldn’t precisely put a finger on what the reasons were, but this is one of the speculations.

Recent Bollywood films that have been boycotted

In the last month, three major Bollywood films became targets of the boycott trend, which influenced the box office collections heavily. Twitter has been a primary tool for starting such trends.

Another film that ran into similar issues is the multi-starrer Vikram Vedha, which has also been listed in the boycott trend. The movie is yet to be released and landed in trouble when Hrithik Roshan, featuring in this film, supported Aamir Khan’s latest release Laal Singh Chaddha on Twitter. Saif Ali Khan also stars in the upcoming movie Vikram Vedha.

The trend of boycotting Laal Singh Chaddha started when excerpts from an interview Aamir Khan gave in 2015 started appearing on social media. In the clips, Aamir was seen expressing his concern that his ex-wife Kiran suggested they should migrate from India due to the "growing intolerance". Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan fell into the boycott trap after some media enthusiasts dug out old tweets by Kanika Dhillon, who is the writer of the film.
