Monkeypox causing heart damage? Know what the new study suggests

According to a new study, Monkeypox can lead to serious heart issues.

Recently a rare case was diagnosed wherein a man suffering from monkeypox was seen suffering also with severe heart ailments.


The 31-year-old male diagnosed suffered from acute myocarditis inflammation of the heart muscle immediately after a week of contracting monkeypox. The link between monkeypox and heart disease has been included in the JAAC (Journals of the American College of Cardiology), as per reports.

The 31-year-old patient had visited the clinic on seeing sores on his body.

After a check-up, it was declared that the patient was suffering from monkeypox.

The symptoms included malaise, myalgia, fever, and sores located in the face, hands, and genitalia. The problem arose when within a week he started to develop heart issues and complained about chest pain and pain in the arms.



On diagnosis, it was found that the patient also suffered from severe inflammation of the heart muscles. The symptoms the man encountered were stiffening of his hands and severe pain in the chest which are signs of heart disease.

This link between monkeypox with heart disease as mentioned by doctors in the USA finally came up in India as well.

With this, it has been advised that doctors attending to monkeypox patients need to be cautious. When a patient comes in for a monkeypox check it is advised to also check for symptoms of heart disease.

Especially the stiffness of arms, constriction in the chest, shortness of breath, and pain in the throat-jaw-neck-upper belly-back.

Other symptoms include coldness in the legs or arms due to the narrowing of blood vessels.
