Krishna Janmashtami for 2022 is here, and the country is already in the festive mood. Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated for two days this year. Let us get to know about the festival in detail.

What is Janmashtami?

Krishna Janmashtami is observed every year as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. As per the Hindu calendar, the Janmashtami is marked on the 8th day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada.

The Bhadrapada month usually falls between July and August, though there’s confusion this year about the exact date. While some have said that the Krishna Janmashtami 2022 will be celebrated on Thursday, August 18, others say that it will fall on Friday, August 19.

However, as per Drik Panchang, the Ashtami Tithi will begin at 9:20 pm on Thursday and end at 10:59 pm on Friday. While some decorate the idols of Lord Krishna and offer prayers, many devotees also keep a fast during the Tithi.
