Janmashtami is one of the most celebrated festivals across the country. On this day, the devotees celebrate the birth anniversary of the Hindu deity Lord Krishna. According to the Drik Panchang, Krishna Janmashtami will fall on August 18 this year. Following rituals and traditions, devotees observe fast till Rohini nakshatra and Ashtami tithi.

Although devotees all across the globe celebrate the day with a lot of zeal, holy places Vrindavan and Mathura experience special festivities on this day. These places carry huge significance as it is believed that Lord Krishna was born in Mathura and spent his childhood in Vrindavan.

According to ISKCON, Janmashtami is to be celebrated from August 19 to 20, and the timings and duration will remain the same.

Krishna Janmasthami will be celebrated for two consecutive days. The first being Smarta Sampradaya, and the other Vaishnava Sampradaya.

Based on the Vaishnava traditions, the ISKCON suggests different days for Krishna Janmashtami.

Krishna Janmashtami: Significance of the day
It is believed that Lord Krishna was the eighth child of Mata Devki. And so, during the Bhadrapada month, Janmashtami is observed on the eighth day of Krishna Paksha or fortnight.

According to Hindu mythology, Kansa, the ruling king of Mathura, got his sister married to Yadu king Vasudeva.
Kansa's evil deeds continued, and once he received a message from heaven that his sinful deeds would end by his sister Devaki's eighth child.
Although Kansa killed six children of Vasudev and Devaki, the seventh and eighth survived due to divine interventions.
And it is believed that Krishna was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Celebration and Festivities
On Krishna Janmashtami, the temples of Lord Krishna across the world are elegantly decorated. Following rituals, the idols of Lord Krishna are bathed with milk and water and decorated with traditional new clothes.

People dress up in traditional outfits at various places and celebrate Dahi Handi with a lot of zeal. They hand earthen pots full of butter and milk, Lord Krishna's favourite.

Observed on the eighth day of the month of Bhadrapada according to the Hindu calender, Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna.



"For this exhibition, we have brought Krishna idols in paper mache, clay, bronze, black and white metal, wooden articles scaling from 1 foot to 4 feet, and ranging from Rs 150 to 3 lakh," he added.



He, at the same time, highlighted how the recent floods in the state of Kerela have reduced their exports to other parts of the country.



"Most idols are brought from Kerela and Tamil Nadu but due to the floods, we have lost business."



However, Narendra hoped to see a good response in the coming two days.
