Karthi, debutante Aditi Shankar starrer 'Viruman' OTT Release: Check when and where to watch

Karthi-starrer Tamil movie Viruman is all set for its OTT release on September 11 on Amazon Prime. Directed by M. Muthaiah, Viruman features Karthi and Aditi Shankar in the lead. The film was released pan India on August 12.

Viruman received much slack from critics for having a cliched template.

Writing for India Today, Janani K. said that the movie had an underwhelming screenplay.





At the same time, Lakshmi Subramanian for The Week criticized Viruman for being a cliched casteism and family disputes movie. The lead actor Karthi also criticized his stereotypical performance filled with rage and rancour.




Almost every reputed film critic thought the movie was generic and had nothing original. However, the story of the box office was quite different. Viruman managed to rake in over Rs.30 crores on the opening weekend, the highest for any Tamil movie in the current year.

The film was also released in Malaysia, where the movie has also managed to pull in decent figures.

The OTT release on Amazon Prime will further improve the movie’s numbers game, making it one of the most successful Tamil movies of the year. Most of the revenue generated has from the home state. However, the OTT release will help Viruman reach a much wider audience. Apart from the leads, the movie also features Prakash Raj, Rajkiran, Soori, and others in important roles.

Prakash Raj has a considerable following among the Hindi-speaking audience, mainly due to his famous characters like Gani Bhai (Wanted) and Jaikant Shikre (Singham). Therefore, the actor’s presence is bound to bring in more viewers from the west and north India. The OTT release being on Amazon Prime means that the film will get exposure on one of the OTT platforms in the country.

Karthi’s upcoming movies include Ponniyin Selvan and Sardar. The actor will sport a dual role in the latter movie, directed by P.S. Mithran. Prakash Raj was last seen in Dhanush starrer Thiruchitrambalam, and his last Hindi movie was Rashtra Kavach Om. Prakash will also feature in Karthi’s next movie, Ponniyin Selvan.
