Historic change in 2023 Miss Universe beauty pageant rules. Mothers, wives can now compete

Miss Universe beauty pageant 2023, will undergo historic changes as it is set to include mothers and married women in the contest. The 72nd Miss Universe will mark this change.

The pageant only allowed unmarried women and women with no children in the age bracket of 18 to 28 to participate until now. The expectation from the winners was not to bear children and stay unmarried till the Miss Universe title was with them.

The internal memo stated that a woman's personal decisions should not hinder her success. Hence, they welcome the move.


Miss Universe 2020, Andrea Meza commended the change and said she was delighted to hear this was happening. She added that society is changing, and women now hold positions of significance. It was time that beauty pageants changed some rules to accommodate women who have families.



She noted that some people were against such changes as they always wanted to see women who were available for relationships. They also want to see women who look perfect and unreachable from the outside. While one is sexist, the other is unrealistic.

Meza went through some issues herself when she won the crown. A few hours after her crowning, reports surfaced on social media about her being married. An image of her wearing a wedding gown was seen on Instagram.

The pageant's spokesperson said the organization received many messages about the picture and flooded them. However, the image was of a photoshoot that Meza was a part of while promoting Chihuahua, Mexico as their official tourism brand ambassador.

She said it was funny because the guy in the picture is one of her friends' youngest brothers, 21. She felt it was funny as he was just a kid, and everyone took it seriously.
