'Gold' OTT release: Prithviraj, Nayanthara-starrer bought by Amazon Prime for record price

Nayanthara and Prithviraj's upcoming Malayalam comedy film Gold will release on September 8. Alphonse Puthren is directing the film and the movie is up for its Onam release. Gold will have its time in the theatres and will be up for streaming on OTT.

Filmmaker Alphonse Puthren's 'Premam' was a big hit in Tamil Nadu and Kerala and a massive number of fans flocked to the theatres to watch the movie on repeat. The theatre owners would wish the same to happen again with 'Gold'.

Gold OTT Release

The multi-starrer film will launch on Onam on September 8, and the makers revealed that Gold OTT release rights have already been sold to Amazon Prime for a record-breaking price. Once the movie ends its theatrical run, it will be available on Amazon Prime for all users. Generally, a Malayam film runs in theatres for 30-40 days before coming to OTT. It would be interesting to see whether "Gold" gets an extended run at the theatre, keeping the cast and the buzz around it in mind.

The movie makers also revealed that Gold's Kannada, Tamil, and overseas distribution rights were also sold for record-breaking amounts for a Malayalam film. Surya TV brought the movie's satellite rights, and Truth Global Films brought the overseas rights.

Magic Frames and Prithviraj Productions have produced the movie, and it is the third production of the production houses this year. The other movies, Kaduva and Jana Gana Mana, were superhits and crossed Rs 50 crore worldwide in gross earnings at the box office.
