Who was Sonali Phogat? Here's you may want to know about her life

Haryana BJP leader and influencer Sonali Phogat breathed her last on Monday in Goa. As per media reports, the 42-year-old controversial politician was in Goa with her close associates when she suffered a fatal heart attack. The Haryana state BJP unit has confirmed that her body will be transported to the state after completing formalities.

Sonali Phogat's Controversies
Sonali Phogat was no stranger to controversies and was a rather unconventional female politician. From calling people to chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ in political rallies to appearing on Big Boss, Phogat was the perfect "done it all, seen it all" character. The controversial leader joined the BJP in 2008, a couple of years after she began her professional career as an anchor on Hisar Doordarshan. She was also made the National VP of BJP’s women’s wing.

Career

Phogat took to acting a few years later when she moved to Mumbai to pursue her career. She starred in a few Haryanvi movies, working with known actors like Ravi Kishan and Jimmy Shergill. Phogat also worked on the small screen, starring as Nawab Shah’s wife in the Zee TV show Amma. She was last seen in Ameet Choudhary’s web series, "Story of Badmashgarh".



In her political career, Phogat continued to court controversies, especially when she was the BJP candidate in the 2019 Haryana Assembly candidate from the Adampur constituency. In a rally, Phogat created headlines after she asked people to raise the slogan Bharat Mata ki Jai and labeled those who didn’t do so as Pakistanis. Though she apologized later, Phogat lost the election to Kuldeep Bishnoi.

Sonali Phogat entered the house of Big Boss season 14, hosted by superstar Salman Khan. She stepped into the house as a wild card entrant. In June 2020, Phogat landed in another controversy after a viral video on social media showed her hitting a government officer with her slippers. However, the biggest controversy of her life was the sudden death of her husband, Sanjay Phogat. In 2016, Sanjay was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a field near his farmhouse in Hisar.
