Butter Royale review: Fun and quirky gameplay, good graphics

Just like any other game in this genre, Butter Royale is all about the action but with a twist.

Since Fortnite and PUBG exploded on the scene, the battle royale genre of games has seen a lot of activity. Most of these games are all about guns, bombs and non-stop action. Just like any other game in this genre, Butter Royale is all about the action but with a twist.

Instead of guns, you indulge in fighting with food items like Breadzooka, hot dog Miniguns or Snipermeasan rifle. It takes food fight to a different level. Unlike PUBG, where 100 players congregate and fight, Butter Royale has 32 players. The idea is simple: eliminate competition and be the last person standing.

It is fun and quirky, albeit a bit childish. But if you are tired of playing in Sanhok (PUBG) or Killhouse (Call of Duty Mobile) then Butter Royale is a tasty treat. It is not all fun and games, however, as there is tactical warfare at play as well. You can hide in the bushes or tents and ambush the enemy.

The graphics are good but lack the finesse of a battle. That is understandable as the idea is not to put gamers in a warzone situation but give them a fun experience. The controls are easy to use and you won’t take much time getting used to them. Having said that, after playing a dozen times or so, we did lose some interest.

One thing that works in favour of Butter Royale is the game duration. Games rarely last more than 5 minutes, which means you can squeeze in a round or two after getting some work done or in between those Zoom meetings.

The game is free but you require an Apple Arcade subscription, which costs Rs 99 per month. Since Apple doesn’t encourage in-app purchases on Arcade, you don’t have to deal with constant popups about buying this or that. So you don’t really have to spend real cash to get the best out of this game, something that can’t be said about other popular titles in the genre.

It can’t be the staple of your gaming menu but it is fun and quirky and gives you a nice feeling — just like a nice dessert.
