The relentless 9-to-5 grind can gradually take a toll on motivation, energy and overall well-being. Long hours, constant deadlines, workplace pressure and the struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance can leave employees feeling emotionally drained. For some, burnout can make even a job they once enjoyed feel overwhelming, while financial responsibilities can make walking away seem impossible. Yet, sometimes, stepping away can offer the breathing room needed to reassess priorities, recover from exhaustion and figure out what comes next. Recently, an employee shared a similar story on Reddit but received huge support from fellow Redditors.

Employee with 8 years of experience quits job

As per the post, the employee had accumulated 8 years of professional experience and had enough savings to cover their expenses for around 10 months without needing to withdraw from their investments. Despite having that financial cushion, they had been struggling with burnout, sadness, persistent anxiety and a constant sense of uneasiness.

The employee eventually decided to leave their job without securing another position first. Their final working day had arrived, leaving them with a mix of emotions. While they felt relieved and excited about what the future might bring, there was also uncertainty about what life would look like without a regular salary. They turned to fellow Reddit users to ask whether others had taken a similar leap of faith and how things had worked out for them.

Reddit users share positive feedback

Reddit users queued up in the comments section, giving their suggestions to the employee. One user encouraged them to put their physical and mental well-being first and recommended taking a trip or doing something relaxing before beginning the search for another opportunity. They also stressed that regardless of salary, work should be sustainable and contain at least some elements that a person genuinely enjoys.

Another Redditor shared a similar experience after leaving a job they had held for nearly five years. They said the workplace offered little appreciation, inadequate salary growth and poor work-life balance, while being repeatedly overlooked for promotions eventually became the breaking point. Although they had been searching for another job for around two-and-a-half months, they remained confident that leaving was the right decision, describing the workplace's toxicity as something that had left them emotionally numb.

A third user said they had also quit at a similar experience level despite earning around ₹50 lakh annually. After taking a few months off to recover from burnout and study, they eventually secured another role with an approximately 80% salary hike.
