BTS’ ‘Butter’ rules top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts for 5th week, breaking Aerosmith's 23-yr-old record

The Grammy-nominated seven-member boy band 'BTS' from South Korea has just made history by maintaining lead on Billboard Hot 100 chart for the fifth consecutive week, a feat last held by 1970s American rock band ‘'Aerosmith'.

The band made an impressive debut on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with their recent single 'Butter' which bagged the top spot on the list and continues to stay there for the fifth consecutive week.

According to data released by Billboard, 'Butter' racked up close to 12.4 million streams and 128,400 downloads in the US over the past week, becoming the first debut song in the Billboard Hot 100 history by a group to do so. "Five weeks in a row!", the group tweeted on Monday, thanking the band's fanbase called 'Army'.



The record was held by Aerosmith's 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' for almost 23 years. The song, released in 1998, made the record by holding the top spot for four weeks in a row. "What is happening?" asked BTS on Twitter, sharing a picture of the Billboard Hot 100 list with 'Butter' still on the number 1 spot.


Meanwhile, the K-pop stars' single is also the first song to earn over 100,000 sales in each of its first 5 weeks of release, breaking the record held by Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You'.


In the last couple of years, the seven-member boy band has seen a tremendous growth in their musical career and outreach along with an expanding fanbase.
