BSE bleeds blue: Paytm listing ceremony a family affair, founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma tears up

The Paytm Listing Ceremony on Thursday completely transformed the appearance of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) with blue lighting and matching decor.


The much-awaited ceremony turned emotional for founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma when the National Anthem was played at the beginning of the event. He was seen wiping away his tears while speaking on his big day.

Meanwhile, the billionaire got all the support from his family and friends. His son Vivaan helped him strike the gong to commence Paytm's journey as a listed company. After the ceremony, he sought blessing from his mother Asha Sharma, who was also attended the cermony to cheer her son.




Among many businessmen and investors, Ravi Adusumalli, Managing Partner at Elevation Capital, and Elevation Capital senior executives Mukul Arora and Vaibhav Goel were present at the ceremony.

Right before the event, Sharma - an avid Twitter user with over 515K followers - said he is experiencing exactly what Team India feels before a match when they receive good wishes and kind messages from the country.

"Feels like carrying the hopes and aspirations of young India to the Stock Market. From coal to fintech in 11 years, India has transformed. To every Paytmer, you’ve changed India for good," he wrote.


Snapdeal founder Kunal Bahl, and CRED boss Kunal Shah wished Sharma on the big day.

Deepak Shenoy, founder and CEO of Capitalmind, also sent his best wishes.


On the official Twitter handle, the company shared a link to catch all the action live from the Paytm listing ceremony.


With its creative tweets, Paytm kept its fans engrossed too.



According to Forbes, Sharma's net worth is valued at $2.4 billion.
