Bridging the gap! When Pawan Goenka and Bharat Desai played a card game together after 25 years
Last week, the sixth edition of the annual corporate bridge tournament took place at a suburban luxury hotel in Mumbai. Leading names from the business circle locked horns at the day-long event. Lunch and tea breaks were welcome opportunities to enjoy a light moment with old friends.

But once back at the table, every player had his game face on.

While bridge is a serious mind sport, for many it’s also a great place to bond with old friends. The tournament saw Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra pair up with Bharat Desai, co - founder, Syntel. The two apparently last played the card game together almost 25 years ago. “I was supposed to be at the tournament last year too but couldn’t make it. This time I knew Pawan was going to be here, so I just called and we decided to pair up,” said Desai, as he prepared to settle down for the post-lunch session. And just like that, the mood in the room went from friendly banter to game on.
