Lee proudly calls India his home what with his over two-year association with the country. The former Aussie pacer was in Amritsar to attend an event as a brand ambassador for the Cochlear’s Global Hearing initiative.

This isn't Lee's first tryst with Punjab. He was part of the Kings XI Punjab team and during that stint, he effortlessly picked up nuances of the culture. Lee has also found friends amongst Bollywood bigwigs, and feels the fraternity and the country has welcomed him with open arms.

In a bid to make his voice heard for those suffering from hearing loss across India, Lee urged the Indian government to make hearing screening for newborn babies mandatory.

He is closely associated with the cause because his son Preston suffered from a temporary hearing loss due to a bad fall at the age of 5. Due to that, most of his hearing in the right ear had disappeared. Therefore, raising awareness for hearing impairment resonates with him.

While advocating the cause, the former pacer said hearing loss is treatable and early screening and intervention can ensure a normal life for children with profound hearing loss.

He is also the Global Hearing Ambassador with world-renowned implantable hearing aid firm Cochlear.
