Eating a balanced diet and aerobics, weights and supplements keep Rahul Kapuria healthy.
Rahul Kapuria, MD of Brandmakerr Interior Solutions is working from home given the pandemic. He has set up a home office to work better. "I have a work desk facing some lovely plants and a couch so this helps create an office environment. No dressing up just a jeans and T-shirt which are normally my usual office clothes. The usual Zoom, Skype, Google helps but there is lack of face-to-face supervision," he says.

Me time
Drawing lines between professional and personal lives is crucial, employee morale, productivity, mental focus feels Kapuria.

"I used to take breaks to do pull ups and exercises as I have a pull up bar and dumbbell rack. I decided to work on new business generation and debtors collections. This helped because when we opened in May we had new clients and a good business log this was a huge morale booster. We focused on pending collections and debtors aggressively and could collect 80 per cent of our debtors. Ultimately financial discipline and new business with cost cutting helped us steer successfully," he shares.

Family space
Kapuria thinks family is very important. "Personally, during Covid it was skipping and exercising at home and loading videos on social media as going out was not possible. I have a pull up bar at home. I use it regularly. Long drives with family, just camping and eating packed food used to be safe outings. I am an avid runner so I am at the trail by 6.30 for my evening run for the past one month recently," he says.

Healthy lifestyle
Eating a balanced diet and aerobic, weights and supplements are how Kapuria keeps healthy.

"Yes cooking healthy balanced meals, watching a lot of news and Pakistani serials, and plyometric exercises, household chores and reading are some of the new things I did," he says.

“I decided to use this opportunity to improve my physical conditioning. I started cycling (after more than 40 years) inside my gated community from mid-April. I went from seven kilometres per ride to 20 kilometres by the end of June. Recently, I did a 52-kilometre ride to Chikka Tirupathi [on the outskirts of Bengaluru]. Cycling has had a huge impact, not just on my physical conditioning but also my confidence.”

“Startups are quite demanding, so I’ve never been able to work out more than three days a week, even when I trained for the Ironman Triathlon. So, when the lockdown was announced, I decided to challenge myself with a ‘consistency goal’ of accomplishing a workout a day. It began with coordinated workouts on Zoom with my friends and as restrictions eased, I started going for outdoor runs. There were days when there would be so many calls that I’d be seen climbing the building stairs at 10 pm. I now have more than 100 days of workouts under my belt and it has been the biggest stressbuster.”

“During the lockdown, I have managed to master single-leg burpees. It’s important to have a defined schedule and stick to it. I ensure that I block out some time during the day for exercise. I work out at home daily with various bodyweight exercises — I do pushups, burpees and air squats. I love doing CrossFit and high-intensity interval training that combines weightlifting, aerobics, powerlifting and gymnastics.”
