Border 2 arrives on OTT soon
After a successful run in theatres earlier this year, the war drama Border 2 is now preparing for its digital premiere. The film, led by Sunny Deol, arrived in cinemas on January 23, 2026, and quickly drew attention for its large-scale war sequences and emotional storytelling. Now, viewers who missed the theatrical release—or those who want to watch it again—will soon be able to stream it online.

When and where to watch Border 2 on OTT

The makers have officially locked the OTT release date. Border 2 will start streaming on the platform Netflix from March 20, 2026. The announcement came through Netflix India’s catalogue, confirming that the film’s digital debut will take place less than two months after its theatrical release.

The movie features a multi-actor cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty alongside Deol. With the OTT release now confirmed, the film is expected to reach a wider audience who prefer watching movies at home.

Story set during the 1971 war

Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is set during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War and builds a large narrative around the military conflict. Unlike the original Border (1997), which mainly focused on the Battle of Longewala, the sequel expands the story to cover different fronts of the war.

The plot shows how India’s Army, Navy and Air Force respond after Pakistan launches an offensive under Operation Chengiz Khan. Sunny Deol plays Lt. Col. Fateh Singh Kaler, who leads an army battalion during the intense conflict.

The story also follows several other officers fighting on different fronts. Varun Dhawan appears as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, the Param Vir Chakra awardee known for his bravery at the Battle of Basantar. Diljit Dosanjh portrays Air Force officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, who defended the Srinagar Air Base during the war and was later awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously. Ahan Shetty plays Indian Navy officer M.S. Rawat.

Through these characters, the film mixes combat scenes with personal backstories, including references to earlier conflicts and the sacrifices soldiers and their families face during wartime.

Supporting cast and Box office performance

Apart from the main leads, the film also features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa and Medha Rana in supporting roles. Mona Singh plays Surinder Kaur Chandpuri, while Medha Rana and Sonam Bajwa portray family members connected to the soldiers’ lives.

The film also brought attention to its music, particularly a recreated version of the iconic song “Sandeshe Ate Hain”, titled “Ghar Kab Aoge.” The track features voices from several singers including Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra and Diljit Dosanjh.

At the box office, the film performed strongly. According to Sacnilk, Border 2 collected around ₹392.40 crore in India and roughly ₹449.65 crore worldwide, making it one of the big commercial successes of 2026.

Border 2 is part of a larger effort to expand the Border franchise, which began with the 1997 film Border directed by J. P. Dutta. The original movie became one of the most memorable Indian war films and was inspired by the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 war. For the sequel, production houses T-Series and JP Films joined hands to revive the franchise with a new storyline and a younger ensemble cast.
