As per a report by the Humans of Bombay, Satyawan Gite comes from a simple background and poverty did not allow him to study for long. But he was always fond of music, sneaking out of his home as a kid to watch orchestras, even after being scolded by his parents. His dream was to perform like that someday. But when Satyawan’s parents passed away, he lost his biggest cheerleaders and felt stuck in life.


In that pivotal moment, music became Satyawan Gite’s best friend, helping him find strength. He realised that music was not just his passion, but his way of living. ‘Gaane sunta hoon toh lagta hai main phir se jee raha hoon. (When I listen to songs, it feels like I am truly living again),’ he admitted. Keeping his love for music alive, Satyawan has now transformed his auto into a wonderful, melodious ride.

Mumbai auto driver’s everyday life

According to Satyawan Gite, he sings songs making passenger smile. Sometimes they even hum the lyrics with him. On other occasions, he celebrates the birthdays of commuters inside his auto as well. That’s not all. Satyawan also keeps fruits, water and Wi-Fi, absolutely free of cost for his passengers, just for the sake of humanity. He also offers free rides to the elderly and pregnant women, displaying his empathetic side.



Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Sunny Deol and Govinda have also enjoyed musical rides in Satyawan Gite’s auto. But as per the driver, every passenger is a star for him. Every day, he wakes up at 5:30 am, travelling from Bandra to Andheri and Lokhandwala, carrying out his duties while also savouring his childhood dream simultaneously. ‘I’m not just driving people around. I’m trying to make them feel something,’ he states.

Satyawan Gite has also kept a feedback diary in his auto for passengers to share their thoughts and opinions on his unique ride. He revealed that one day, a passenger left a lovely remark in it that left a deep impact on Satyawan. They wrote, ‘This is one of the best things Mumbai has’. As per Satyawan, the feedback serves as a reminder as to why he continues to do this unique job.
