LOS ANGELES: The characters from Bob Dylan's songs are set to be brought to life in a new drama series.

Australian writer-director Josh Wakely has secured the rights to the folk-rock icon's back catalogue for use in his new project "Time Out of Mind", which he is developing for Lionsgate TV, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The hour-long episodes will be based on themes from Dylan's tracks, although specific plot and character details have yet to be announced.

The series, which takes its name from the legend's 1997 album of the same name, is expected to stream on online video service Amazon.

Wakely is no stranger to drawing inspiration from material by famous musicians. He is also the brains behind forthcoming animated Netflix show "Beat Bugs", which will feature stories inspired by the songs of The Beatles.

Eddie Vedder, Pink and Sia are among the artists who covered the Fab Four's tunes for the show.
