BMW's new concept scooter is straight out of the future
BMW now has a new addition to its Vision Next 100 concept line that explores how driving will evolve in the next century. The newest vehicle is an all-electric scooter called the BMW Motorrad Concept Link. The scooter made its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an Italian motor festival.

It has a distinctive look you can’t ignore, like its predecessor BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100. It has a low-slung, stretched body and a flat seat combined with a diagonally rising front section. The Motorrad Concept Link also flaunts the technology used as part of the design package. That is why its side panels don’t totally cover the side section at the rear. It also reportedly helps improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

BMW has also designed a matching riding suit for its Motorrad Vision Concept that is embedded with sensors and will vibrate in a specific area to indicate another vehicle is approaching. (Image: bmwgroup.com)

The electric scooter promises fast acceleration and easy handling, and a reverse gear ensures that it is easy to manoeuvre, making it ideal to park in tight city spaces. BMW did not reveal specs for the scooter, like range or horsepower.

And it keeps the rider connected while riding, and knows what’s in the rider’s calendar and therefore his next destination. As a result, it can plan the fastest or most scenic route and even select the most suitable music, if required.

Navigation and battery information of the vehicle are projected onto the windshield directly into the rider’s fi eld of vision. Secondary information is displayed on the large-surface panel. The touch sensitive surface of the display panel also controls infotainment, connectivity and general information. Programmable, touchenabled buttons on the handlebars allow the rider to access preferred and frequently used functions without having to remove his hands from the handlebars.

BMW’s first Motorrad concept, unveiled last year, comes with augmented reality glasses to display information directly in front of the rider’s point of view. BMW also designed a matching riding suit for its first Motorrad Vision Concept that is embedded with sensors and will vibrate in a specific area to indicate another vehicle is approaching.
