Birthday gift for wife! The Rs 55,000 cupcake

Some husbands give their wives flowers and jewellery for their birthday. Others commission local bakers to come up with the most extravagant cupcake possible and are willing to part with Rs 55,000 for it. That's what happened in Toronto recently, when Lisa Sanguedolce of Le Dolci bakery was approached by a man to create an over-the-top dessert to celebrate his wife's 40th birthday.

After a few days of brainstorming, the pastry team came up with a concoction made with some of the most expensive ingredients in the world, including Krug Collection Brut champagne, 24-karat gold leaves, and a limited edition Courvoisier.

"It was a lot of labour, going back and forth with him, showing him sketches and sourcing everything," Sanguedolce said last week. "Our chef is amazing. She came up with it all. I was, like, this is beautiful." If you also love your wife (or husband) some Rs 55,000-worth of chocolate and vanilla, Le Dolci will make the cupcake via special order.
