Bill Murray’s Hawaiian shirt, Jared Leto’s flower power: Twitterati turn Golden Globe moments into memes

Lest anyone forgets, the stars did attend the show from the ‘comfort of their homes’.

This year's Golden Globes was different. There was no red carpet, or a barrage of reporters waiting on the side to get hold of the glammed-up stars walking down in their Sunday best. No, this year it felt like being on a conference video call as the award show was held virtually, with no big venue or any bling.

But the pressure to stand out remained. As the show moved from a giant studio to the living room, celebrities made sure that they still looked dazzling for the big night.

From gorgeous gowns to dapper suits, Hollywood stars brought their A-game for the (not so) glittery night, even if it meant walking 10 steps or less from their bedroom to the living area. However, there were still some who reminded the audience that the Golden Globes, be it virtual or not, were still being attended by the stars from the "comfort of their homes".

One of them was actor Bill Murray, who was up for the Best Supporting Actor award for 'On The Rocks', but didn't make it. However, in a way, he did win, all thanks to his casual look. The 70-year-old ditched the suit and went for a printed shirt with a Hawaiian vibe. Looking at the camera, Murray even raised his glass of martini as he attended the show from what looked like his backyard. And just with that appearance, he made Twitter go gaga. "Bill Murray with his martini is a whole mood," a Twitter user wrote.

Even dicitonary.com joined in with their hilarious and witty take on Murray's shirt.

But ‘The Lost In Translation’ star wasn't the only one who stole the show. Actor Jason Sudeikis, who won Best Actor in a musical or comedy for 'Ted Lasso', accepted the globe in a tie-and-dyed hoodie. When asked about the hoodie, the actor said he was promoting his sister's dance studio and workout space situated in New York City. Clever, we must say! But for Twitter, it was a potential meme material.

"I think Jason Sudeikis didn’t know this was happening today like the rest of us, one user tweeted with a hashtag Golden Globes.

But what Twitterati found most hilarious was 'Godfather' fame Al Pacino dozing off during the award show. Though many applauded the actor's whole look for the show, including his amazing hair, there was a moment when the 'Scarface' star was spotted nodding off to dreamland for a brief moment. "Thinking about Al Pacino clicking “Join With Audio” on the Golden Globes Zoom," a user joked.

While another user resonated with Pacino. "Al Pacino’s face is how we all feel about virtual everything," the person wrote on Twitter.

The other few stars whose appearances on the Golden Globes that gave birth to hilarious meme content on social media were Jared Leto with his flower and Jeff Daniels and his room full of doors. Take a look at what Twitter had to say about that.

Taking home the biggest award of the night was former cricketer, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who was felicitated with the Colonel C.K.Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. Srikkanth shared the stage with BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

However, one of the highlights of the evening was former cricketer Virendar Sehwag’s A-level humour which stole the show at the awards. Our very own ‘Viru’ delivered the seventh Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi lecture at the BCCI awards. The lecture was established to honour former captain of the Indian cricket team Tiger Pataudi.

Commenting on the ICC’s plan to revamp Test cricket by shortening it to four days, Sehwag said, “Chaar din ki chandni hoti hai, Test match nahi...Jal ki machli jal main hi acchi hai, bahar nikaloge toh mar jaegi (Test matches aren’t meant to last 4 days. A fish is better suited for water. It will die if taken out of its habitat).”

Taking a strong stand against ICC’s move, Sehwag, in his usual style, said, "...Test cricket ko chanda mama ke pass le jaa sakte hai. (We can take Test cricket to the moon). We can have Day-Night Test cricket. If there is a day-night Test, maybe people will come to watch game after office. Innovations should happen but within the five days. It should not be shortened" he asserted.
