Gates, who is also the co-chairman and trustee of the Gates Foundation India, a noted not-for-profit organisation, participated in the Empowerment Through Nourishment campaign. Union Minister Smriti Irani, who spearheaded the campaign, praised Gate’s attempt to come up with his own rendition of the ‘shree anna khichdi’ and told the media, “Never before has a partner from the women and child development been adventurous enough to venture near the making of khichdi.”
The minister also shared a clip of the billionaire preparing and tasting khichdi on her Twitter handle. She dropped the video along with the caption, “recognising the Super Food of India and its POSHAN component, when Bill Gate gave tadka to Shree Anna Khichdi!"

The tweet soon gained traction on the microblogging platform. It amassed more than 210K views and more than 5,000 likes. Twitterati praised Irani's hosting skills and Gate's attempt to step out of his comfort zone and cook food. "Finally added the flavour to Khichdi. Khichdi is all about the final step of tadka. How humble of our union minister Mrs Smriti Z Irani and World's Business Icon Mr. Bill gates to be so grounded and nailed the thadka for a perfect Khichdi, " wrote a user. Another commented that there should have been a helping of aloo bharta along with a plate of khichdi. Another wrote, "This khichdi is not just for Microsoft people, the glow of this khichdi is visible in the world. Gr8."

Addressing the campaign Gates lauded it for prioritising empowerment of women and child nutrition. “ I have to say that the Poshan campaign brings together many things that are great priorities. It's nutrition, and it's about helping women,” he was quoted as saying to a leading English daily.
The campaign aims to promote nourishment for pregnant women and children.
This was Gates' first visit to India since the Covid-19 pandemic. Before the tour commenced, the Microsoft founder took to Twitter to praise the country and it's untapped potential for innovation. "India gives me hope for the future ... as it has proven it can tackle big challenges."

The billionaire met many bigwigs from various sectors like Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra and Sachin Tendulkar on the tour. He also addressed hot-button issues such as climate change, nutrition, health and poverty alleviation multiple times during the tour.
