Munawar Faruqui's opens up about his 'average' childhood
Coming from difficult beginnings, yet Munawar's talent and authenticity resonated with audiences. His breakthrough came after winning two of India's most-watched reality shows: Lock Upp in 2022 and Bigg Boss 17 in 2023. These victories rose him to fame and earned a massive following. On a recent podcast, Munawar bravely revisited the memories of his childhood. He recounts how he witnessed domestic violence between his parents from as early as age four or five, an environment that left him emotionally numb. He told Prakhar Gupta, "You're just crying in the corner, because you couldn’t do anything about it. Ye regular hai, it could happen twice in a week, in a month, or for four days in a row."
Equally moving was his account of his mother’s tireless efforts to keep the family afloat. With just Rs 30 a day, she managed food, daily necessities, and even took on embroidery work to make ends meet. During village ceremonies, she would cook for large groups, sometimes up to 250 guests, single-handedly. These hardships, he says, shaped him more profoundly than any sense of poverty ever could. Because, his mother was selfless woman.
Munawar shared that his mother never expected gratitude from anyone, except from her own family, especially her husband, but sadly, she never received it. Despite that, she continued to give her all and remained incredibly patient throughout her 22-year marriage. It was a difficult life, filled with pain that few could bear. Eventually, the toll of those years led her to make a heartbreaking decision. Her passing still leaves him with questions, but he believes it may have been the only way her journey could have ended.
