NEW DELHI: After missing the Sharjah Book Fair last week, actor Amitabh Bachchan also missed the inaugural ceremony of 25th Kolkata International Film Festival due to ill health on Friday.

The 77-year-old megastar took to social media on Saturday to express regret about not being able to attend an event he had been attending for the past six years. During every visit, he ensured a powerful speech, which the Government of West Bengal (WB) included in a book.

Big B confirmed that a sudden medical issue confined him to bed, and he couldn't make it to the event. He also mentioned that he plans to send his speech that he had prepared after a lot of research to the WB government.

Bachchan was hospitalised last month due to liver problems.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said at the event on Friday, "Amitji comes here every time. But since last night he is not well and doctors asked him not to travel. I got a message from him this morning about his inability to come. We pray for his long life and good health."
