Akshay Kumar’s horror comedy Bhooth Bangla has released in theatres and is already drawing attention for its OTT plans. As per reports, the film’s digital rights have been acquired by Netflix, where it will stream after completing its theatrical r...

The film opened with paid previews on April 16 and reportedly collected around ₹3.5 crore even before its full release. Its first proper theatrical shows began soon after, and early numbers suggest a decent start at the box office.
OTT platform confirmed for Bhooth Bangla
As per multiple media reports, the digital rights of Bhooth Bangla have been picked up by Netflix. This means once the theatrical run is over, the film will be available for streaming on Netflix. The makers have not officially confirmed the OTT date yet. But going by the usual pattern, most Hindi films land on streaming platforms roughly 45 to 60 days after their theatrical release. If that trend holds, Bhooth Bangla is expected to arrive online sometime in June or early July. Right now, this remains an estimate and viewers will have to wait for a final announcement.
One of the biggest talking points around the film is the reunion of Akshay Kumar with director Priyadarshan. The two have worked together on several comedy films in the past and share a long association. Their last collaboration was Khatta Meetha, which released around 14 years ago.
Because of this, expectations were already quite high. Their past films have built a strong recall among audiences, and this film tries to tap into that same space of comedy mixed with chaos.
Story and setting of the film
Bhooth Bangla follows the story of Arjun, played by Akshay Kumar, and his sister Mithila. The two are based in London when Mithila suddenly inherits a huge ancestral property in India. The story then shifts to a village called Mangalpur, where the palace is located.Arjun decides to prepare the place for his sister’s wedding. But things are not normal in this village. As per local belief, no weddings have taken place there for years due to a curse linked to a figure named Vadhusur, who is said to abduct brides.
This sets up the main conflict of the film, mixing fear with humour as the story unfolds. The narrative may feel somewhat familiar, something audiences have seen in earlier horror comedies, but it leans on performances and moments to keep things engaging.
Visually, the film makes use of grand locations like palace settings, and the village backdrop has been designed to give that old-school eerie feel. Some scenes are said to remind viewers of earlier films in the genre, adding a sense of nostalgia.
