Festive fashion update: The saree gets a new twist
There is something special about dressing up during festivals in India.

The season used to be all about going ethnic. But now, people have started experimenting with their looks. Like wearing sarees with pants or dhoti pants! Everyone is making a style statement.

A subtle transition from Indian traditional clothing to indo-western silhouettes has been in vogue. The choices have changed from traditional sarees to pre-stitched sarees with bold prints and patterns, and sarees with pants or dhoti pants. The trend has moved from classic embroidered sarees to chic printed sarees.

People are moving away from the mundane fabrics and silhouettes by mixing and matching Indian and Western elements to create interesting ensembles. Pairing up printed blouses with flowing skirts, sarees with off-shoulder, collared or bell sleeved blouses or indo-western sheer capes and printed cloaks with dresses are all examples of gradual evolution of traditional garments to edgy chic silhouettes.

Indo-western gowns are a rage these days. It's a whole new fashion aesthetic that is not only elegant, but also easy and comfortable to wear.

Fashion sensibilities are changing and people have become open to stepping out of their comfort zone and experimenting with their looks.

Bright colours are have long been the norm for festive dressing, but there is now a gradual movement towards more subtle shades like pastels, powder pink, and even metallics that incorporate bold and edgy cuts.

Accessorising with jewellery accentuates the outfits and creates a balance.

Everything said and done, I believe that people should wear what they are comfortable in. Dressing up is about being yourself and expressing your style, and that is how fashion is evolved. Keeping up with the incessantly changing trends is fun and exciting but not at the cost of compromising on our comfort.
