Bengaluru techie was earning Rs 50 LPA. Won an award. Weeks later, he got a huge shock: ‘No meeting, no warning…’
A story of a techie who lost his dream job with one cold email is going viral on X. Despite being a star employee at one of the top MNCs, he lost his high paying job within moments.

He was drawing an annual salary of ₹50 lakh in his position as a Principal Software Engineer and had devoted 13 years of his career to Oracle.
Half a year earlier, he had relocated his aging parents to Bengaluru so they could live with him. To accommodate the larger family, he rented a more spacious apartment that cost ₹80,000 every month.
Only a fortnight before losing his job, he had been recognized with a spot award in appreciation of his outstanding leadership and contributions.
Then everything changed unexpectedly. On the previous evening, there was no discussion with his manager, no advance notice, and no indication that anything was wrong. Instead, an automatically generated email from the human resources department informed him that his position had been eliminated as part of the company's restructuring.
His family depends on him. One child is preparing for the highly competitive JEE entrance examination, while the other is already pursuing higher education in college.
He did not react with tears or anger. Instead, he fell into complete silence before quietly wondering how he would explain the situation to his father.
More than a decade of commitment and dedicated service vanished overnight. A career that provided an annual package of ₹50 lakh came to an abrupt end through a single automated email, highlighting the harsh reality that long-term loyalty offers no guarantee of job security. The incident also raises uncomfortable questions about corporate claims of putting employees first, even as many organizations continue to promote "people-first" values in their recruitment messaging.
The post went viral on X, receiving more than a 1,000 likes. One social media user said a family member who had worked at Oracle in Bengaluru for nearly 20 years was among an entire team that was laid off. The commenter also shared the experience of a friend who spent about a decade at Dell, earning an annual package of roughly ₹45 lakh, but has reportedly been unable to find another director-level position despite searching for more than a year. These accounts added to the growing discussion about the challenges faced by senior technology professionals after layoffs.
Another commenter expressed concern over the increasing trend of companies letting go of seasoned engineers. According to the user, replacing experienced professionals with less-experienced talent may reduce costs in the short term but could weaken product quality over time by eroding institutional knowledge, technical expertise, and leadership within engineering teams.
