Parents of the deceased actress alleged that her live-in partner Shagnik Chakraborty had lied to their daughter about him marital status.
An initial post-mortem report in Bengali television actress Pallavi Dey's death suggest that she died by suicide. The actress was found hanging at her rented apartment in South Kolkata on Sunday and was declared dead when she was taken to the nearby hospital.

However, parents of the deceased actress alleged that her live-in partner Sagnik Chakraborty had lied to their daughter about his marital status. ET Times says that the couple claims Chakraborty had a wife, and their daughter was oblivious of the fact until six months ago. When their daughter learned the truth, she confronted him, and he tried to save face by saying that a divorce case was currently ongoing and he and his wife were separated.

The actress parents further claimed that Chakroborty was dependent on their daughter financially and lived off her earnings. He lived a luxurious life, staying in a plush apartment at New Town, and owned a vehicle along with their daughter.

In light of the allegations police are probing the "abetment to suicide" angle. According to Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), if any person commits suicide, whoever abets the commission of such act, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Chakraborty was the one who had discovered the deceased actress's body hanging on Sunday, and intimated cops and Dey's parents. He has already confessed that prior to Dey's death, they had a heated argument following which he went out to get some cigarettes and returned to find the actress hanging from a ceiling fan.

The cops are currently investigating all the call details and bank statements of Chakraborty. Reportedly, he had joint bank accounts with Dey, and in one fixed account the couple held Rs 15 lakh jointly.
