Chuck Norris passed away at 86.
Long before he became one of Hollywood’s most recognisable action stars, Chuck Norris was quietly building a reputation in a very different arena. Fresh from his time in the United States Air Force and armed with multiple black belts, Norris was not yet a screen icon but a sought-after martial arts instructor. His discipline, skill, and calm authority drew some of the biggest names in entertainment to train under him, setting the stage for his eventual rise to fame.

Norris mastered multiple martial arts forms, including Karate, Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and judo, and went on to win several championships. He later founded his own discipline, Chun Kuk Do, reflecting his deep commitment to evolving the art. Before stepping into films, he built his career by teaching martial arts in Hollywood, where celebrities trusted him not just for physical training but also for the discipline and focus he brought into their lives.

Steve McQueen

One of his most notable students was Steve McQueen, one of the most influential actors of his time. Known for his antihero persona and effortless charisma, McQueen dominated the box office from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s. He earned the nickname “King of Cool” and became one of the highest-paid actors in the world. His filmography included iconic titles such as The Sand Pebbles, The Cincinnati Kid, Bullitt, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Great Escape, and Papillon, establishing him as a defining face of Hollywood’s golden era.

Priscilla Presley

Another student was Priscilla Presley, a prominent figure in entertainment and business. Widely known for her marriage to Elvis Presley, she went on to carve her own identity as an actress and entrepreneur. She played memorable roles in the Naked Gun film series and the television show Dallas, while also leading Elvis Presley Enterprises and transforming Graceland into one of the most visited cultural landmarks in the United States.

Bob Barker

Norris also trained Bob Barker, a legendary television personality best known for hosting The Price Is Right for over three decades, making it the longest-running game show in North American television history. Barker’s career in entertainment spanned radio, television, and advocacy, and he became equally recognised for his work in animal rights. His journey began in broadcasting in the 1950s, eventually turning him into one of television’s most enduring figures.
