Before venturing into acting, Boman Irani was a photographer.
Long before he became one of Bollywood’s most loved actors, Boman Irani was known for something very different—his camera work. Many don’t know that he once worked as a professional photographer, even running his own ad agency. And in one of those early days, he captured the first glamorous portfolio of actress Radhika Vidyasagar, who recently walked down memory lane and revealed what it was like being shot by Boman himself.

Radhika, who was just starting her career when she bagged her first television role in Ek Dhaga Asa Sukha Cha, shared with IANS that veteran actor Sudhir Joshi suggested she do a professional photoshoot and connected the young actress with Irani. For Radhika, the idea of being photographed by Boman felt larger than life, especially since she came from Pune with only a small theatre background.

She further added that back then, Boman Irani was a well-regarded photographer, arranging everything from stylists to studio lights for his shoots. Radhika recalled that her very first glamorous photoshoot included both Indian and Western looks, and she was left stunned by how stunning the pictures turned out. That portfolio became a turning point for her confidence as a young actress.

Who is Radhika Vidyasagar?

Radhika Vidyasagar went on to make her mark with shows like Udne Ki Aasha, Tuza Maza Breakup, Thipkyanchi Rangoli, and, more recently in the film Munjya, starring Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Singh, and Mona Singh.

Boman Irani and his love for photography

As for Boman Irani, his photography journey was deeply personal. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he revealed that his father, who passed away before he was born, was also a photographer. Cameras and negatives were the only physical memories he had. Boman saved money to buy his own basic camera, starting with sports photography before moving into commercial work.

He also said that photography taught him patience, discipline, and self-expression—qualities that eventually shaped his path as an actor. By the age of 35, he transitioned into films, but he never forgets that his creative journey truly began behind the lens.
