Beddingwear could be the look of 2020
Confinement at home has inspired a slew of bedding fashion designers.

Several top couturiers have ventured into the luxury bed linen market in past decades, but there has not been any attempt before this pandemic-prompted confinement, to actually turn them into fashion statements. Given the added virtue of sustainability, the challenge of morphing a bedsheet, pillow, pillow case, bolster, duvet, quilt or valance into captivating clothing may well lead to beddingwear becoming the defining fashion development of 2020.
Already, a New York-based model’s video of himself wearing a blanket in different ways has notched up over five million views. Many other bedding fashionistas have uploaded original takes on pillow dresses, duvet gowns and other wraparound drapes to show it is possible to get dressed without getting out of bed. This ‘bedroom look’ could prompt future fashion historians to draw analogies to Coco Chanel, whose use of non-luxury jersey and hosiery sparked off a trend.
