'Barbie' faces Elon Musk's wit: Billionaire takes a dig at Greta Gerwig directorial for its anti-patriarchy themes

Film-maker Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' might be minting money at the global box office but tech billionare Elon Musk is not impressed by it. In fact, the Twitter boss has called out the film for its overuse of the word 'patriarchy'.

On Wednesday, Musk cracked a joke at the film's feminist themes and tweeted, "It you take a shot every time Barbie says the word "patriarchy", you will pass out before the movie ends."

His tweet was in response to a meme that compared the Twitter symbol to Barbie and his own social network's new symbol, labelled X, to Oppenheimer.



'Barbie' has been making headlines globally, breaking records at the box office and becoming the highest-grossing film directed by a female director.

However, it hasn't garnered unanimous praise, and Musk's comment adds to the array of opinions surrounding the movie.

The film's portrayal of modern feminism and its exploration of themes related to male fragility have attracted criticism from conservative critics.Some netizens shared their opinions in the comment section of Musk’s tweet.

A user wrote, "Agree. Incredibly disappointing movie for all the hype and was not appropriate for kids but regardless of the PG-13 rating it was heavily marketed to little girls,"


"Nobody, and I mean nobody went to watch this film for the plot , there is only one reason people went and she is called M.R" shared another.


Musk's involvement in the discussion is not surprising, given his history of sharing candid opinions on social media.
