“Loving you just keeps getting better and better!” she wrote. “Happy anniversary, @BarackObama. Here’s to many, many more years of joy, laughter, and memories to come.”

Barack was struck by Michelle’s height and beauty
The two met in 1989 at Chicago law firm Sidley Austin LLP, where then Michelle Robinson was assigned to mentor Barack. Barack later recalled that he was immediately drawn to her.
“In the luckiest break of my life, [Michelle] was assigned to be my adviser, I remember being struck by how tall and beautiful she was,” he told , The Oprah Magazine in 2007. “I asked her out. She refused. I kept asking. She kept refusing.”

Dating a colleague
In a 2008 interview with ABC News, she suggested that the firm may have thought their Harvard backgrounds made them a natural match. “Because I went to Harvard and he went to Harvard, and the firm thought, ‘Oh, we’ll hook these two people up,’” she joked.

In a 2009 interview with Voice of America, she recalled, “I must say that Barack, about a month in, asked me out. And I thought, 'No way. This is completely tacky. I've got an advisee and I'm going to date him?' So, it took about a month or so for him to talk me into going out on our first date.”

Their first date changed everything
Michelle later recalled their first date in her 2018 memoir Becoming. Barack picked her up in a Datsun that had a “rusted-out, four-inch hole” in the floorboard.

Two years after their first date, Barack and Michelle became engaged at Gordon’s restaurant in Chicago after Barack passed the bar exam.
“And then the waiter came over with the dessert and a tray. And there was the ring,” Michelle said. “And I was completely shocked.”
They married on October 3, 1992, and later welcomed daughters Malia and Sasha.
