Emraan Hashmi is back! The actor's latest romantic-action drama Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol-starrer Batwara 1947 hit theatres on August 14. After receiving mixed reactions from critics and audiences, Awarapan 2 has emerged ahead in the box-office clash. The sequel has now crossed the Rs 50 crore mark in India within just two days, giving the film a strong start during the Independence Day weekend.

Awarapan 2 box office collection Day 2

According to early estimates by Sacnilk.com, Awarapan 2 earned Rs 33.75 crore net in India on Day 2 from 10,496 shows. This takes the film's total India net collection to Rs 55.75 crore after two days.

The film's India gross collection has reached Rs 66.90 crore, while its overseas performance has also contributed to its overall total. Awarapan 2 earned Rs 3.50 crore gross overseas on Day 2, taking its cumulative overseas gross to Rs 6 crore.

With these numbers, the film's worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 72.90 crore after two days. The strong second-day performance has helped the Emraan Hashmi-starrer maintain its lead over Batwara 1947, which opened alongside it on August 14.

The sequel is also competing with Hollywood release Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Despite the Marvel film being in its third week and having fewer screens, it continues to attract audiences and remains another competitor for the Bollywood release.

The two-day numbers are particularly huge for Awarapan 2 because the original film had a comparatively modest theatrical run. Released in 2007, Awarapan reportedly earned around Rs 79 lakh on its opening day and approximately Rs 2.88 crore during its first weekend. The sequel has already collected several times the original's opening-day figure.

Emraan Hashmi scores his biggest opener

The strong start has also given Emraan Hashmi a major career milestone. Awarapan 2 has become the actor's biggest opening-day grosser.

Before the sequel, Emraan Hashmi's best opening came with Baadshaho. The 2017 film earned Rs 12.60 crore net on its first day. His other openers include Raaz 3, which collected around Rs 10.35 crore on Day 1 in 2012.

Awarapan 2 has comfortably surpassed both films.

The film has also benefited from the nostalgia surrounding the original Awarapan and the return of Hashmi as Shivam Pandit. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the sequel expands the franchise with a new story while retaining the central character that audiences remember from the first film.

Alongside Hashmi, the film features Disha Patani as Zara and Shabana Azmi as Nafisa. Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, Atul Kumar, Aniruddh Rawal and Puran Gabbi are also part of the cast. The film has been produced by Vishesh Films.

Awarapan 3 update: Emraan Hashmi teases fans

The success of Awarapan 2 has already led to questions about whether the franchise could continue with a third instalment. During a recent visit to a Mumbai theatre, Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani interacted with audiences during a screening of the film.

As reported by TOI, Emraan Hashmi thanked fans for supporting the sequel and said the film ultimately belongs to the audience. He also told audience that the second half had more to offer, asking them to watch the complete film before making their final judgement.

The actor then dropped a major hint about the possibility of Awarapan 3. Responding to the excitement from fans, Hashmi said he hoped audiences would enjoy the entire film and expressed hope that the third instalment could arrive soon.

While his comments have certainly sparked excitement among fans, Awarapan 3 has not been officially announced yet. Stay tuned!
