Attention, ladies! Men prefer football over sex

To all those wives and girlfriends out there who complain about their partners' attention span when a football match is on, these survey results won't be heartening. Research from Nissan and Loughborough University in the UK has shown that men prefer football to sex.

Over 5,000 people in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain were surveyed last month to understand the science behind fan excitement.

Over half the men — 55 per cent — say that watching their favourite team do well on the soccer pitch was the most exciting thing that happened to them in a week. The second was related to a hobby or passion while sex only came in third.

Seventy three per cent of men said the Champions League final was the most significant sporting event they looked forward to all year. The most popular team unsurprisingly, was Barcelona with 64 per cent of vote, while Real Madrid got 60 per cent and Bayern Munich got 41 per cent of the votes.
